A look inside

Here's the thank-you email from folder 04

It's short and warm, it comes from a real person, and it tells the donor exactly what their gift is doing. In my experience, very few organizations send an email like this, which is exactly why donors remember it when they get one. Every email in the file comes with three subject line options, the full text with your blanks highlighted, and a short note on why it's written the way it is.

This is for you if
  • You run marketing for a nonprofit, church, or cause, and it's probably one of about six jobs you're juggling
  • Your list gets a newsletter every once in a while and a receipt when someone gives, and honestly that is about it
  • You would send more if you didn't have to start every single email from a blank page
  • You'd rather have the emails written and ready to send than take another course about writing them
It's not for you if
  • You already have a development team writing all of this for you
  • You're looking for an email tool, since this is the writing that goes inside one
  • You're hoping for a magic subject line. I promise there isn't one, but there is a good structure, and that's what you'll find in here
The math

Bringing back one lapsed donor pays for this, and one new monthly donor pays for it every month

Send folder 05 to the people who gave two years ago and stopped, and a few of them will come back. Send folder 06 and a few one-time donors will become monthly donors. Either one of those would cover the $29 in the first week, and everything after that is money you weren't raising before.

Questions

What people ask before they buy

Will it work with my email tool?

Yes! These are written emails that you paste into whatever tool you already use, whether that's MailerLite, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Flodesk, or even Gmail. I show MailerLite in the guides because it is what I run for myself and for the organizations I work with.

What exactly do I get?

A zip file with 12 folders. Each has a guide PDF, a checklist PDF, a worksheet PDF where it helps, the templates as a designed PDF, and the same templates as a Word document you can edit. That's 47 PDFs and 13 Word docs in total, including a Start Here guide and a master pre-send checklist.

Is this for churches too?

Yes. The welcome series has a newcomer version, the volunteer folder is built for ministries as much as nonprofits, and every email works with "congregation" swapped in for "donors." If you're a church, you'll use every folder except maybe the year-end one, and honestly, you should use that one too.

I'm not a writer. Will these sound like me?

That's exactly who I wrote them for. Every email already has the structure done and the hard sentences written. You replace the highlighted brackets with your names, your numbers, and your story, and then you read it out loud. If a line doesn't sound like you, change it! The order of each email is what does most of the work, so you can reword as much as you like.

What if I already have some of these?

Then you will use it to fix the ones you have. Most organizations I work with have a welcome email and a donation receipt, which is two out of the sixty-five in here. The ones they do have usually ask for money in the very first email, which the guide will talk you out of in about a paragraph.

Can I get a refund?

It is a digital download, so all sales are final. But if a file is broken or something in it doesn't make sense, reply to your receipt and I will personally make it right. You have my word on that.
